Jimmy works with 14-16 year olds in college – some of whom have been excluded from school and feel school is not for them. He brings a lot of life experience to his teaching job. Having worked as a Special Constable, Community Panel member and had jobs in sales, he sees effective communication as the key skill that underpins his teaching. He doesn’t give up on his students. He refuses to write them off.
Jimmy:
Within our course we know a lot of them are disengaged, so school hasn’t worked. This year we’ll have 40 students from school links and 35 home educated students that will have gained qualifications. Our students require a lot more support pastorally. The way we teach in FE is different. They feel like they get more respect.
