Lucinda talks about her important work in Offender Learning. As a tutor she sees people progress from different starting points, some of which are the first steps. Some of her students then go on to make dramatic progress.
Her work also focuses strongly on helping students develop life skills so they can take care of themselves. For some, this involves ‘making the change’ and turning a corner to avoid going back to prison. In this way FE makes a vital contribution to lowering recidivism rates.
The biggest impact is when someone is able to sit and read something to you that they couldn’t have dreamt of doing even weeks before.
A college saying ‘Yes’ when everyone else has said ‘No’ – that’s a big thing.
