Critical Pedagogy, further education and students with special educational needs

Paula has worked with students who have special educational needs in further education for almost two decades.

In this video, Paula talks about the unique space created by further education in which students with special educational needs study and work with other students in ways that are beneficial for everyone. Colleges provide a ‘differential’ space in which the real diversity of our society is visible and experienced.

Paula recounts some important examples and illustrations of how further education can have a transformative impact for students with learning difficulties and mental health problems. Further education courses can provide students with the focus and support that leads them towards (re)claiming their independence and affirming their dignity in our communities.
