I want to champion working in FE, often perceived to be the poor relation in terms of education employment. I relocated and had two small children and managed to secure a few hours part time teaching in FE. The staff were fantastic, I received excellent mentoring and it was tough teaching some disaffected young people who’d been excluded from school.However I learnt so much from this and taught with almost no resources. This transformed my life I saw potential in these young people and became committed to widening participation, and I gained so much confidence. I teach in HE now all thanks to my time in FE, it is transformative for young people and teaching staff. Cinderella’s together
